Handheld Group, a manufacturer of rugged mobile computers has introduced the SP500X ScanPrinter, in turn launching a new segment to its lineup of rugged computers: rugged wearables.
The SP500X ScanPrinter is a wearable, scan-and-print solution that integrates 2D imaging, inkjet printing and wireless communication in one device. It’s designed for high-volume logistic operations that use manual scanning and labelling to sort packages.

Handheld and its partners deliver mobility solutions to businesses in industries such as geomatics, logistics, forestry, public transportation, utilities, construction, maintenance, mining, military and security.
With Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as an integrated printer developed in partnership with HP, the SP500X can quickly scan and print directly on packages anywhere in a facility, whilst keeping both hands free.

“The scanner sends the data to your back-end system, which sends back information for printing. And nearly immediately, you print an address, a code or other information directly on the package. Your hands are free. You can move anywhere you need to work. You’re not anchored to a printer”.

Handheld says that the SP500X ScanPrinter’s key user benefits include improved package-handling efficiency, improved scanning and sorting accuracy and flexibility and agility that frees workers to perform scanning tasks on the go.
The company also notes productivity and safety as a positive since workers have the freedom to use both hands, as well as dependability and versatility provided by HP’s patented technology, which allows the product to print on plain paper, kraft paper, packing tape, coated labels, polypropylene, polyester or polyethene plastic.
With headquarters in Sweden and subsidiaries in Finland, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, the UK and the USA, Handheld states that more wearable devices will be added soon to its portfolio of products.
