Lift-off | Automate Pro Europe Issue 1 | September 2021

By Joel Davies -

Welcome to the first edition of Automate Pro Europe magazine. As you can see, it looks a little different to its predecessor but don’t worry, it’s not just a new look. We’ve been working hard to ensure our content is even better than before.

As a sneak peek into the type of content we will be producing across Automate Pro Europe, together with CVPro and RoboPro, we have included features from the new industries and categories we will cover. This includes the first-ever Reader Profile, where we talk to Dr Salvatore Mauro of the Italian National Research Council Institute for Marine Engineering.

In another first, we have the Future Technology feature, which examines the eight start-up finalists of Nature Journal’s Spinoff Prize, who are turning incredible ideas into real-world applications.

In a third first, we have our Business & Finance feature, which delves into the recent history of the ride-hailing mammoth, Uber, from its failed Elevate project to its heavy investment in the delivery chain.

For our Industry Pioneers feature, I sit down with Stefan Drakensjo, ABB Robotics’ VP of Global Marketing and Sales, General Industry, who fields questions about the company’s future in the construction industry.

We also detail Mitsubishi’s recent scandal and Allied Vision and Advanced illumination’s new integration guide whilst telling you all about the world’s first 3D printed steel structure unveiled last month in Amsterdam by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands herself. Any guesses as to what it is? Hint: it’s not a giant bicycle.

It’s all coming up roses for FRAMOS in a European exclusive where the company explains how it helped one of the largest greenhouse operators in North America alter its operations through autonomous self-driving greenhouse tow-tractors. We also hear from Doris Knauer of Physik Instrumente GmbH, who details the importance of Hexapods for ensuring quality image stabilization.

Whilst the first edition of Automate Pro Europe magazine is safely on your screens, we’re working away to get our new online home and the home of CVPro and RoboPro ready for you. This, we’re happy to say, will take place over the coming weeks as summer comes to an end and the manufacturing industry restarts. For now, enjoy the read, keep an eye out for updates and most of all, make sure you relish your well-earned break.
