Beginning in April, FRAMOS, the global supplier of imaging components, will introduce the new Intel RealSense D405 depth camera to its product portfolio.

The D405 is the smallest model in the D400 series – a compact, short-range stereo camera that delivers sub-millimetre accuracy. The Intel RealSense D405 depth camera operates in a range of 7 cm to 50 cm and achieves minimum object detection of up to 0.1 mm at 7 cm. At a distance of 25 cm, depth accuracy is better than 0.7%. A USB 3.1 interface and multiple mounting threads allow for easy integration and its power consumption in streaming mode is 1.55 W while only 35 mW in standby mode.

At just 60 grams and measuring only 42 mm x 42 mm x 23 mm, the Intel RealSense D405 depth camera is smaller than a golf ball and suited for robotics applications that require precise depth sensing at close ranges from 7 cm to 50 cm. Primary applications include industrial manufacturing, automated inspection on assembly lines and high-precision placement of small objects at close range.

The new D405 depth camera is also helpful in smart farming where it can provide highly accurate measurement and positioning data so that robotic arms can grip fragile fruits and vegetables without damaging them. For applications in medical technology or healthcare, the D405’s short-range accuracy enables a complete and accurate 3D image of wounds in seconds to determine healing progress without physical contact.

The camera’s global shutter sensors have a field of view of 87° × 58° with a depth resolution of up to 1280 × 800 pixels. Like all Intel® RealSense™ depth cameras, the new D405 can be used indoors and outdoors in a temperature range of 0°C to 55°C. The camera’s image signal processor (ISP) optimizes the depth sensor’s 1920 x 1080 RGB pixel data (up to 90 fps) and ensures image results by matching the RGB and depth data.

The Intel RealSense depth camera D405 will be available from FRAMOS in April 2022. The platform-independent Intel RealSense SDK 2.0 and the corresponding tools support all current Intel RealSense depth cameras.

At MODEX 2022, FRAMOS will present a demo with the new Intel® RealSense™ D405 in its booth for the first time. All current Intel RealSense depth cameras can be requested from local FRAMOS representatives.

You can find more information about FRAMOS and the Intel RealSense D405 depth camera on its website.
