Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI), a Korean maker of drones that use hydrogen fuel cells, is accelerating its plan to enter the European market with its first European dealer, FRP Advanced Technologies Aerospace & Defence, S.L (FRP Tech.).
Doosan Mobility Innovation has created the world’s first commercialized hydrogen fuel cell system for drones, which have 2-hours of flight time. With an endurance of almost four times that of regular drones, DMI’s hydrogen drones are utilized in various industrial fields including utility inspection, delivery, environmental monitoring, and public safety. Based on this green technology, DMI has already launched its products in the USA, China and Korea.
FRP Tech., is a professional drone sales and service provider, supporting drone solutions and platforms for civil and military sectors. In particular, FRP Tech focuses on green solutions, including electric and hydrogen. With a new dealer, DMI says it aims to provide product sales and services to European customers, especially those in the oil and energy business who can benefit from their long-lasting drones.
Francisco Requena Paredes, CEO of FRP Tech., said, “DMI’s hydrogen drone can become a game-changer in the commercial drone market with its flight time. Hydrogen drones are highly likely to be used in various fields, from wind power plant inspections to public safety”.
FRP Tech says that according to the Teal Group, the European commercial drone market is expected to reach $760 million in 2021, and grow to about $1.8 billion dollars in 2025 as BVLOS flights are partially allowed with the unification of EU regulations.
Beyond drones, DMI also creates UAVs including its DJ25, which the company calls the world’s first hydrogen-powered VTOL. The hydrogen-powered version of the VTOL has an endurance of 300 minutes, which is more than twice the lithium battery version and can fly 418 km when flying at an average speed of 25 m/s. Similar to its related drone products, it’s marketed as suitable for all long-distance inspections and large-area surveying & mapping.
After the announcement of entering the European market, DMI CEO Lee Doo-soon said, “We are able to enter the European markets that possess high growth potential through collaboration with FRP Tech. The hydrogen drone is highly compatible with Europe’s environmental policies and provides a long endurance solution. It is expected to be used in various fields”.
