I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that adaptation has become central to our lives over this past year. From home schooling to shopping, virtual software technology has enabled us to move to remote working, and not just to cope but also for some to thrive in the new normal. Although the UK now sees light at the end of the tunnel we are conscious that our friends and colleagues in Europe and farther afield remain in a difficult position. We send you all our best wishes.
Time to welcome the newest member of the MVPro Team, Joel Davies, our new writer who has already hit the ground running and reached out to many of you to discuss the latest innovative thinking and products. This issue is focussed on AI, and the positive step-up that can be felt throughout the sector. With so much happening we have extended our industry news this month, highlighting important news and changes, along with the technology developments that have gathered pace through this last difficult year. Despite everything it would appear that if anything, the time has allowed researchers and developers to move forward rapidly in our industry.
Joel sat down with Dr Appu Shaji of Mobius Labs to discuss his take on all things AI with a special emphasis on the ‘picture-finding’ kind. In a special feature, and one which is very topical at the moment, we explore the rise of the death of the supermarket queue, looking specifically at developments in the retail sector.
MVPro attended a brilliant virtual press conference, hosted by Fuzzy Logic Robotics (FLR) the brainchild of Dr Ryan Lober and Antoine Hoarau. We give an overview of the first release of Fuzzy Studio™, a universal software platform the company say is, “intuitive and simple like a video game.
One of the biggest industry trade show events in North America, Automate Forward didn’t fail to provide a worthy platform for the world’s best companies and products this year. The event contained many highlights, including a final day keynote speech from Andrew Ngon end-to-end workflow to build deep learning-powered visual inspection. Having explored every product and booth on display, Joel brings you a run-down on the top three exhibitors he visited. Wherever you are, stay safe, and now grab a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy the read.
